A 4x4 Laptop Cooler. That would actually be a pretty cool idea for a product. Can you imagine how many 4x4 enthusiast out there would love to have a cool 4x4 gadget to hold their laptop while they pull up photos and videos of all the latest monster trucks and monster truck babes. I say you make it remote controlled and give it enough power to support and transport a full sized, big screen laptop. Just think you could simply press a button and your 4x4 laptop cooler would bring your laptop to you. I'm sure you could also program it to fetch a beer from the fridge as well. I'm sure everyone has seen those funny "people" traffic signs on the roads if you live in America. You know those familiar yellow signs with black silhouette of people doing various pedestrian activities. They have a guy crossing the road, a mom and daughter walking to school, a guy on a horse, and my favorite - a guy on a farm tractor. I believe these signs are good for society in that they warn people of oncoming dangers. Therefore, I thought the next sign they should make is one warning people of "hot laptops". It's a fact. Laptops get hot. All computers get hot, but laptops have a limited amount of cooling space, so that it is harder to keep a laptop cool than a full sized desktop computer. Laptops due to their portable nature, come across many heat inducing situations that you just won't encounter with a desktop computer. For example, laptops can be placed in insulative situations like carpet and or bed blankets. These conditions conform to the bottom of the laptop and block the air flow. They also insulate the heat right back into the laptop, which can cause a meltdown.

Why is it bad to use a laptop without a laptop cooler. The reason is because laptop computers generate a lot of excessive heat. This heat can be bad for both the laptop computer and the person using it. A hot laptop might damage delicate and expensive components like your hard drive, processor, or motherboard. The other side of the coin is that the heat can make the computer user hot and uncomfortable. If the laptop gets hot enough, it could even burn you. I've heard many horror stories about burned laps and other body parts. Just do a Google search if you don't believe me. All in all, it's always wise to stick a laptop cooler between you and your portable computer.

They need to make a better diagram. Above laptop diagram shows how carpet blocks the flow of air beneath the laptop. Believe it or not, there are people who still place their laptop on carpet. Just say no to carpet. Always use protection.

Is Carpet bad for Laptops?

I would recommend that you never place a laptop on carpet. If you only place it there for a couple of minutes, then that shouldn't be a problem. However, if you sit there and work on your computer for over 5 minutes, then your laptop will probably start to overheat. The reason is because carpet fills the air gap as it conforms to the shape of the bottom of the laptop. Therefore, it will block the flow of warm air trying to escape from the laptop's cooling system. And to make matters worse, the carpet acts like an insulator and bounces the heat back into the laptop. As you know, I always recommend a laptop cooler for any laptop, but even if you don't purchase a laptop cooler, please at least refrain from subjecting your expensive laptop to carpet-heat-torture-chamber.

Other side effects of Carpet include static electricity. Since a laptop computer contains many delicate electronic components, static electricity can be as deadly to a laptop as heat.

How exactly does a laptop cooler work?

Well, it's actually pretty simple. The first step a laptop cooler does is to provide an air gap between the laptop and the cooler. This helps the internal cooling system of the laptop to function better. Every laptop comes with its own cooling system that usually consists of a fan and some air ducts. It is critical for the laptop to have an air gap below the cooling system in order to dump all the hot air out and away from the computer. The second step a laptop cooler performs is the function of creating its own air flow to help the internal fans get rid of even more hot air. The cooler fans are usually powered by either an AC adapter or by the laptop via a special USB cable.

That's a good question. Laptops get hot because every computer gets hot. Laptops tend to get hotter than desktops because they have less surrounding air inside their compact design. Keep in mind that laptops have the same heat generating components (processor, hard drive, motherboard, CD-ROM drive, DVD drive) as desktop computer, but they also have a battery that generates plenty of its own heat. To compound the problem they have smaller less powerful fans than those found in desktop computers. In addition, lots of times laptops air circulation gets blocked by a person's lap, carpet, blankets, clothing, etc. Even if you can't afford to purchase a laptop cooler, you can simply get a flat surface like an old cutting board and use it to provide the needed air gap underneath the laptop computer. The nice thing about modern (2007 or newer models) is that they are strong yet light enough to pack along with your laptop computer. If I had to recommend a plastic laptop cooler it would be the QuadCooler laptop cooler, because it's made of strong but lightweight ABS plastic and it's got 4 fans to provide balanced cooling to all the hot spots on the bottom of your laptop computer. Does the QuadCooler work with the Sony PS2?
That's a good question so let's take a look. The QuadCooler was designed for laptop computers, however, when we placed the Sony PlayStation 2 on top of a QuadCooler we quickly noticed how perfectly it fit on top of the QuadCooler. Next, we noticed that the PlayStation 2 has 2 USB ports on the front panel, however, the power jack on the QuadCooler is located on the rear of the QuadCooler. I was worried that the special USB cable that comes with the QuadCooler would not be long enough, but it turns out that there was plenty of cable to reach from the rear of the QuadCooler to the front of the PlayStation. Then we turned the unit back around to the front and then powered up the Sony PlayStation and then the QuadCooler. We could see the indicator lights on both the Sony PlayStation and QuadCooler. We could also hear the quiet purr of the QuadCooler fans churning away in the background.

Got Carpet Burn?
In addition to the fans, the QuadCooler also protects against "Carpet Burn". You see many Sony PlayStation owners/users place their Sony PlayStation on a carpeted floor. This is bad (heat wise) for two reasons. 1) The carpet conforms the the underside of the Sony PlayStation and thus prevents the air from flowing underneath the unit, which doesn't allow the warm air to escape from the bottom of the unit. 2) The carpet also acts like an insulator, which also prevents heat from escaping from the bottom of the Sony PlayStation. The QuadCooler provides a smooth, flat surface for your Sony PlayStation regardless if you place it on the carpet or not.

Conclusion
Therefore, we concluded that the QuadCooler works great with the Sony PlayStation 2. In fact, it works so well that I would recommend it to any Sony PS2 owner that's looking for a cooling solution for their video game system.

Strong yet Lightweight?

Many people ask how can something be strong yet lightweight? Well, the answer lies in the material used to construct the object. The QuadCooler is constructed using strong ABS plastic that is also very lightweight by nature. As you can see from the video, the QuadCooler laptop cooler is strong enough to stand the weight of a pickup truck and comes away with only minor damage. It did suffer a little damage in the area near the power jack, but I expected the whole thing to be all cracked up by the weight of the truck. What is ABS plastic? Well, in scientific terms ABS plastic is a type of plastic made of a terpolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. In other words, it a strong type of plastic material that is so strong that it is used for sewage pipes. The black pipes are ABS and the white pipes (used for water lines) are made of PVC pipes. Either material would be good for constructing a laptop cooler, because they are both strong and lightweight. This makes the QuadCooler easy to pack along with your laptop computer and it doesn't add much weight to the overall load. This makes the QuadCooler ideal for students, business people, or anyone who is constantly on the go. And for about $30 (online price of QuadCooler), it makes an excellent gadget gift for many people on your shopping list.

Fancy Cooling System for Laptop Computer

Here's one way to keep your laptop cool. It looks like the person is using a hair dryer (hopefully on the cool setting) to blow the warm air away from the laptop. I have to say that it's a very interesting concept. In addition the video is short and entertaining. From the video description it says his friend's laptop was overheating during the Windows installation process and that the hair dryer trick worked and allowed the installation process to complete.

Does the QuadCooler work with Video Game Consoles?

Well, I can tell you that it does work with old video game systems like the Atari 2600 (pictured above) mainly because the QuadCooler requires a USB connection, which was yet to be invented when the days of the "old school" video consoles like the Atari 2600, Intellivision, ColecoVision, Odyssey, Vectrex, Atari 5200, Activision, Etc. In addition, these older systems (with their tiny processors) didn't generate as much heat as the new powerhouse systems.

Does the QuadCooler work with Late Model Video Game Consoles?

Does the QuadCooler work with the Sony PS2? That's a good question and it's going to take a bit of research to find the answer. I am going to test an Sony PS2 with a QuadCooler and then I will provide the results right here on this page (QuadCooler.com/sony-ps2.html). I plan on providing a written explanation as well as charts, graphs, and photos. Just in case you don't know, the "PS" in PS2 stands for PlayStation.

I searched the Internet and found that at least one person has used the QuadCooler to provide cooling for his Sony PlayStation. This particular person has a PS2 Slim or "Slimline" version of the popular PS2 video game console. According to his blog post, the QuadCooler keeps his PS2 pretty cool. I was up late one night working on my computer when I heard a strange scratching sound coming from the other side of the room. I got up, looked around and discovered a little beetle crawling on the floor. I said to myself, "what an interesting little creature". I picked him up and placed him on my desk where he stayed not seeming to mind. I then decided I better get back to work. I turned on the music to help keep myself awake.

Then all of a sudden, from the corner of my eye, I noticed some movement. I looked down and discovered my little beetle friend also liked my music. He was on his back shaking his legs and gyrating his little BIG butt up in the air. I turned off the music and he flipped himself back onto his legs. I turned it back on and he started dancing. I turned it off and he stopped. I turned it ON... I turned it OFF... ON... OFF...

I knew I had something special here, so I grabbed my camera and carried him over to my work table to make a video. And the rest is YouTube History!

The next morning I took my little bug friend to the back yard and released him back to nature. I knew that would be the best place for him to live the rest of his days.

Dancing Beetle shakes his booty

This is the official QuadCooler Dancing Beetle youtube video. The video is getting so popular that you will find many copy cat videos that copy the actual QuadCooler footage. If the video doesn't come from a user called "quadcooler" then it's not the real thing.

I was up late one night working on the computer when I heard a strange scratching sound coming from the other side of the room. I got up, looked around and discovered a little beetle crawling around. I said to myself, "what an interesting little creature". I picked him up and placed him on my desk and he just stayed there not seeming to mind hanging out on the desk. I then decided I better get back to work. I first turned on music to keep me awake. Then all of a sudden I noticed some movement from the corner of my eye. I looked down and discovered my little beetle friend liked my music. He was on his back shaking his legs and gyrating his little big butt up in the air. I turned off the music and he flipped himself back onto his legs. I turned it back on and he flipped back on his back and started dancing. I knew I had something special here, so I grabbed my camera and carried him over to my work table to make a video. Please leave your comments and let me know if you've ever seen anything like this before. The next morning I took my little bug friend to the back yard and released him back to nature. I knew that would be the best place for him to live the rest of his days.

Fishing for Crayfish

Fishing for Crayfish in the waters of the Rio Grande river - This is actually a little mini diversion canal that comes off the Rio Grande, but it is still part of the Rio Grande river. In the video you can watch us fish for little crayfish or crawdads. We use either worms or hotdogs as bait. The hotdogs work much better. We mainly use handmade fishing sticks instead of fishing rods although one of the kids was using a mini fishing rod with a worm/hotdog combo bait. We keep all the crayfish in a little bucket just to keep track of how many we catch. Then at the end of the day we dump them all back into the ditch. Fishing is fun!

Videos of Fireworks are boring

Fireworks videos are boring - I'm serious. For example, let's say your friend gives you a DVD with 1 hours worth of firework footage. Now imagine you have to sit down and watch it. Suddenly everything becomes more interesting. Then you remember that you forgot to remove and dust all the vent covers in your house and that suddenly seems more interesting than watching your friend's video.

Don't get me wrong. Fireworks displays are awesome in real life, but even with the best film or video cameras, they just can't capture the excitement of the real thing. One reason is that typically the fireworks are very far from the camera lens. However, I think the main reason is that fireworks are a 3D experience that just doesn't translate into the 2D world of film, videos, television, or YouTube.

With all that said, I think I have created an interesting fireworks video. I have purposely kept the time short and I video taped the fireworks at a very close range. I almost got burned. Please share your comments and see if we can figure out how to make fireworks video more enjoyable.
